What’s whois?

Whois is a common term for domain searches online and refers to the question”Who’s?”

DK Hostmaster administers a database of .dk domains and therefore provides a whois service for Danish domains.

A search in our database returns information on the domain name’s:

Availability status
Date of registration
Name, address and user ID of this registrant
Name, address and user ID of this proxy
Name servers

If you have address and name security in the Danish National Register of Persons, then you will also be anonymous from the whois database.

If you want to look up information on a domain, you may use our WHOIS Lookup page. Here you may also fill out a form to contact the owner of any domain name that’s hosted with us. Of course, it is up to the owner to decide if they wish to respond to your query.

How do I update my contact information or nameservers on a domain name?

You can use the DreamHost panel to upgrade or alter the domain contact details that are publicly accessible using a WHOIS lookup.

To make modifications to these details:

1. Go into the Registrations page.

You can change the contact details on a single domain, or on a few domain names simultaneously. If you do opt to modify details on several domains at the exact same time, you can do this in groups of domains with the same extension. For example, you can upgrade the contact information of any .com domains all in the same time, by clicking the checkboxes to the right of all .com domains that you would like to alter.

2. When you’ve selected which domain name (s) to alter on this page, click on the Modify whois history! Button that appears in the bottom of the list.

3. Update all of the areas which you want to alter.

You can even choose to upgrade all contacts at once (Registrant, Admin, Technical and Billing contacts), or apply WHOIS privacy if this is available for your domain type.

If you do not see your domain in this record, the domain name is either registered with a different provider or under a different DreamHost account.

Once you make changes to your contact information, they will be updated in the national registry database within 30-60 minutes.

4. To modify your nameservers on a domainname, click on the”Nameservers” tab, then choose the radio button to either use DreamHost’s nameservers or another host’s nameservers.

5. Replace the default nameservers with the other host’s nameservers, then click on the Save Nameservers button store your changes.

Review the Nameservers post for additional details.
Your new nameservers will be put at the registry within 30-60 minutes, but can take up to 72 hours to upgrade around the world. This is normal and can be due to DNS propagation time.
You may read more about this in the DNS propagation article.
